Looking for a way to cope with narrow streets and congested traffic, the Nissan Land Glider concept takes it cues from aviation in its execution. The narrow stance and tandem seating of its occupants make it similar in layout to a glider's cockpit, while the drive-by-wire controls also owe their inspiration to aircraft. And certainly, the vehicle's ability to lean into corners, which helps it maneuver around in tight spaces can be likened to a plane's banking. This EV also makes use of the lithium-ion battery technology and electric drive developed for Nissan's first commercial electric vehicle, the Leaf.

This futuristic take on the minivan, the HondaSkydeck Concept, makes the current Odyssey look downright pedestrian. The sleekly styled exterior of this people mover is complemented by its unusual scissor-style front doors. The face of the vehicle features a prominent grille flanked by horizontal headlamps. While the Skydeck retains traditional sliding side doors, these panels also swing away and down from the vehicle slightly further to aid access to the large passenger cabin. The seats, with their thin backs and open design, are arranged in three rows; however the second row can stack beneath the front buckets, giving the cabin limousine-style seating.

The Daihatsu basket concept is no different, with its minimalist boxy shape that conveys the rugged outdoor spirit of an SUV — think International Scout. The Spartan interior of the 4-seat concept has cloth-covered seats and a very utilitarian feel. In addition to the fold-down rear tailgate, the basket also features a rear toolbox that can easily be hosed out.

The Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV is designed to show that the company's plug-in hybrid technology is suited for vehicles larger than simple city cars. This mid-size crossover based on the Outlander is styled more toward the station wagon end of the spectrum than a true SUV. The PX-MiEV features all-wheel drive — a 1.6- liter gasoline engine can drive the front axle as well as act as a generator to replenish the battery pack and drive the front and rear electric motors. At low speeds, the plug-in rechargeable battery pack is used to drive the front wheels. In low-traction situations, the rear electric motor is automatically engaged for all-wheel-drive traction.
